Step-by-step prompts
Paste each step into the same chat so the model keeps the earlier context. Then edit before you send.
Step 1
Describe the brand and audience
You're my social media brainstorming partner. Use only the facts I give you about the brand. Don't invent products, customers, results, statistics or events; if an idea needs a fact I haven't given, write [ADD FACT] in the idea. Brand: [what you offer, in one or two sentences] Audience: [who you're trying to reach] Platforms: [e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram] Voice: [three words] Content pillars (optional): [themes you post about]
Step 2
Brainstorm wide
Give me [20] post ideas. Mix formats (carousel, short video, poll, text post, behind the scenes). For each: Pillar | Hook (one line) | Format | What I need to supply.
Step 3
Push past the obvious
Mark the ideas that feel generic. Replace them with ideas that only a brand like mine could post, based on the details I gave you. Keep the same table.
Step 4
Shortlist
Pick the [8] strongest ideas for [platform] this month. Balance the pillars and formats, and say in one line why each made the cut.
Step 5 · optional
Draft one post
Draft the post for idea [number] in my brand voice. Keep [ADD FACT] markers where I still need to supply details, and add 2–3 caption variations.
Example of good output
EXAMPLE ONLY. Illustrative and fictional; not real model output.
| Pillar | Hook | Format | You supply |
|---|---|---|---|
| Behind the scenes | "What packing day looks like" | Short video | Footage from your team |
| Customer questions | "The question we get most" | Carousel | [ADD FACT: the real question] |
Tips and pitfalls
- Give real details. The more specific the brand facts you share, the less generic the ideas.
- Watch for invented claims. Remove any idea that states a result, number or testimonial you can't back up.
- Brainstorm, then cut. Asking for many ideas and keeping a few often gives you better options than asking for a few perfect ones.
- Check platform rules. Contests, health claims and paid partnerships have their own disclosure rules.
Works with
These are plain-text prompts written for general chat assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Paste each step into the same chat so the assistant keeps the earlier context. PromptsByRole has not tested this playbook with any model, so check every draft before you use it.
FAQ
How often should I run this?
Run it whenever you plan your calendar; monthly works well for a content calendar. Paste last month's best ideas into Step 1 to avoid repeats.
Can it write hashtags?
Yes, but check that each hashtag is relevant and in use before you add it.
Can I use it for several brands?
Use a separate chat per brand so details don't mix.
